U.S. Prosecutors Charge Honduran President’s Police Ally in Drug Ring

Manhattan federal prosecutors have billed the former chief of the Honduran Countrywide Law enforcement in a cocaine-trafficking conspiracy situation, aspect of a sweeping investigation into drug-environment corruption in Honduras that also implicates the country’s president.

In a complaint unsealed Thursday in Manhattan federal courtroom, prosecutors and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration reported Juan Carlos Bonilla Valladares used his placement as a substantial-ranking regulation-enforcement official to defend a group of politically linked drug traffickers….
